Why?

This deliverable was created to:

  1. establish a shared understanding of the online community within the Client’s organization.
  2. outline the various levels of participation within the online community (low-to-high) and to identify the ‘target vision’ community model to pursue.
  3. identify ‘gaps’ in knowledge and understanding to pursue with the validation activities (research).

How?

The process started with internal stakeholder interview sessions in order to establish a basic understanding of the goals and participants within the learning community.  These inputs were then used to create a visual model of the community and to further describe the key participants.  After the initial model was created, it was reviewed and iterated several times.  Ultimately, the model was used as a catalyst to research and validation activities, as expressed in the later part of the deliverable segment posted for review.

So What?

The model proved to be a highly useful tool for creating a shared understanding inside the client’s organization about the goals and participants inside the learning community.  Prior to having the model, there were different perspectives and concepts about the model and this visualization served to clarify and consolidate the perspectives.

Deliverable(s)

A ‘portion’ of the overall deliverable, illustrating the community concept and ’straw model’ to validate, and the key questions to answer with the research.
